------------------------------------------------

The VoiceScreen app analyses YOUR voice and detects changes in your voice quality. Voice disorders (hoarseness) are a common condition manifesting in almost 10% of the population.
The causes of hoarseness can be related to common respiratory diseases and/or to vocal
fatigue caused by vocal overload, however it can also be related to functional, behavioral, neurologic factors and both benign and malignant laryngeal tumors.
Hoarseness can also be an early symptom of laryngeal cancer.

The VoiceScreen app requires the user to perform two simple tasks:
Sustain a vowel [a:] sound for 4 seconds.
Read the provided sentence.

The users’ voice is recorded and then analysed extracting six acoustic voice function parameters which are then weighted and merged together to provide the user with the Acoustic Voice Quality Index (AVQI) of his voice. The VoiceScreen app does not only calculate and display the value of your AVQI but also provides you with recommendations based on the test results. The provided recommendations should be taken as guidance on what to do next to help your voice. To further help analyse the state of your voice you can check the previous recording history and monitor your voice changes or share them with your doctor.

------------------------------------------------

Choosing the location for the voice test tasks:
The voice should be recorded in a silent room containing no background noise/sounds. Having chosen a quiet location, make sure that no one will disturb you during the test.

------------------------------------------------

The VoiceScreen app is developed by a Lithuanian University of Health Sciences research and development group which consists of medical doctors, researchers and signal processing engineers.

------------------------------------------------

All individuals with a voice disorder (hoarseness) that last longer than two weeks should see a medical specialist - an ear, nose and throat doctor (ENT/otolaryngologist). Timely and accurate diagnosis of laryngeal disorders is a critically important step towards proper and effective treatment.

------------------------------------------------

The VoiceScreen app is not a medical device or diagnostics tool. The VoiceScreen app recommendations are not to be taken as a substitute for professional medical advice or diagnosis. If you are concerned with the quality of your voice, please seek professional advice from your doctor.
